National Merit Scholarship recognition for students in Alabama and Florida
Students in Alabama and Florida have been recognized through the National Merit Scholarship Program.
In the Tuscaloosa area, eight students from various city, county, and private schools were selected as finalists. These students, representing schools such as Brookwood High School, Tuscaloosa County High School, Capitol School, Central High School, and Northridge High School, are competing for various corporate and college-sponsored scholarships. Selection is based on PSAT scores, academic records, and recommendations.
In Alachua County, Florida, twenty seniors from Alachua County Public Schools were named semifinalists for the 2027 program, marking a 25% increase from the previous year. Semifinalists from Buchholz High School, Eastside High School, Gainesville High School, and the Professional Academies Magnet at Loften High School must now complete an application process involving essays and teacher recommendations to advance to finalist status.
