National Motor Museum to relocate from Beaulieu after 60 years

The National Motor Museum has announced plans to relocate from its historic home in Beaulieu, Hampshire, after 60 years. The decision follows the conclusion of the museum's lease at the site.

While the National Motor Museum Trust and the Montagu family spent two years exploring redevelopment options through donor investment, trustees concluded that a move is necessary to achieve the institution's long-term ambitions. The Trust is currently searching for a new location capable of supporting its growth and safeguarding its collection, which includes over 200 vehicles and approximately 1.9 million items such as film footage, documents, and books.

The relocation is intended to be a transformational opportunity. The museum aims to use the move to increase accessibility, expand community and educational engagement, and establish a new training centre for heritage engineering apprenticeships. Robert MacGregor, Chair of the Board of Trustees, described the transition as a ‘once-in-a-generation opportunity’ to ensure Britain’s motoring history remains relevant for future generations.
