Zemaljski muzej BiH reports pig roasting incident in Botanical Garden

The Administration of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo has reported an incident where individuals were seen roasting a pig on a spit within the museum's Botanical Garden. Following the public outcry, police issued a misdemeanor fine of 200 KM to an individual identified by the initials J. V. for violating public order and peace.

The museum administration stated that this incident is a symptom of a much larger, long-standing legal dispute. They claim that a family of a former caretaker continues to reside in the museum building and is effectively usurping the Botanical Garden for private use. The museum noted that despite investments to renovate and open the garden to the public, they are forced to witness activities such as roasting meat or making ajvar against the walls of a national monument.

Admir Katica, the Minister of Internal Affairs for Sarajevo Canton, confirmed the police action but emphasized that the issue is complex. He called upon relevant institutions and heritage protection agencies to resolve the museum's uncertain legal status and the ongoing disputes regarding the housing of the former employee's family to prevent further degradation of the institution and the city's reputation.
