National Museum of Contemporary Art, Osaka and Osaka Nakanoshima Museum announce collaboration

The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Osaka (NMAO) and the Osaka Nakanoshima Museum (NAKKA) are advancing their collaborative project, ‘KoreNaka’ (Collections in Nakanoshima NMAO–NAKKA). This initiative aims to enhance regional cultural exchange and local appeal by mutually utilizing the collections, expertise, and personnel of both institutions.

As part of this partnership, the NMAO Satellite exhibition is currently being held at the Osaka Nakanoshima Museum. The exhibition features works from the NMAO collection in open spaces to encourage spontaneous encounters between the public and contemporary art. Featured artists include Chiharu Shiota, Yasumasa Morimura, and Aiko Miyanaga.

A commemorative symposium titled ‘Museums and Collections: Collecting, Preserving, and Opening’ is scheduled for November 3, 2026, at the Osaka Nakanoshima Museum. The event will feature presentations from the directors of both museums and artists such as sculptor Keiji Uematsu and contemporary artist Aiko Miyanaga to discuss the significance of museum collections from both institutional and artistic perspectives.
