National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium adjusts hours and reports seal molting

The National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium in Pingtung will implement changes to its operating hours starting in September. The new hours will be 09:00 to 17:00, a slight reduction from the previous closing time of 17:30. Additionally, the museum will transition from being open year-round to closing every Tuesday. However, the facility will remain open on Tuesdays if they fall on national holidays, consecutive holidays, or during summer and winter breaks.

Concurrently, the museum's seal, Charlotte, has entered her annual molting period. This natural process causes visible changes, such as dark patches appearing on her face and body. During molting, seals may experience increased skin temperature, frequent itching or rubbing, decreased appetite, and increased rest to conserve energy. Caretakers are managing her health by increasing food intake prior to the period, monitoring water temperatures, and conducting regular health checks, including weight measurements and stool testing.
