National Museum of Marine Science and Technology opens Oceanic Immersion Space

The National Museum of Marine Science and Technology has officially opened its new permanent exhibition, the ‘Oceanic Immersion Space’. The debut production, titled ‘Leviathan: A Whale Spirit’s Journey Through Centuries of Ocean Change’, utilizes immersive technology to tell the story of the ocean’s evolution.

The exhibition integrates surround sound, directional audio, low-frequency vibrations, wind, mist, and interactive sensors. This multi-sensory approach follows a mythical whale spirit named ‘Leviathan’ through millions of years of marine history, transitioning from a pristine deep-sea environment to one impacted by human activity, such as oil pollution and sonar interference from steel ships.

Developed in collaboration with gradient artist Damonxart, the show aims to foster public resonance with marine conservation issues. The experience concludes with interactive segments where visitors can symbolically clear oil from the water and restore disrupted soundscapes. The exhibition is located near the first special exhibition hall of the museum's main building.
