National Museum of Women's History to open in Sejong by 2031

The National Museum of Women's History is scheduled to open in Sejong City in 2031. The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the National Agency for Administrative City Construction, and Sejong Special Self-Governing City signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a cooperative system for the project.

With a total budget of 35.4 billion KRW, the museum will be built on a 3,000 square meter site in Eojin-dong. The facility will consist of one underground floor and four above-ground floors. It is designed to serve as a complex cultural space featuring permanent and special exhibition halls, storage for women's historical artifacts, and programs for research, education, and experience.

The museum aims to preserve and showcase the history of women's labor, social participation, and solidarity. The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family plans to complete land acquisition by the end of this year, with construction following design and consultation phases starting next year. This project follows long-standing efforts by women's rights groups to establish a national institution dedicated to documenting women's active roles throughout history.
