National Nurses United demands hospitals cut ties with Palantir

National Nurses United (NNU), the largest registered nurse union in the United States, has launched a campaign demanding that hospitals and public institutions sever ties with the artificial intelligence firm Palantir. The union, supported by UE members, argues that Palantir’s technology is used for mass surveillance, targeting immigrants, and monitoring civilians in Gaza.

In the United States, protesters have held demonstrations in cities including Washington, D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, and Austin. Labor representatives expressed concerns that Palantir’s software, which manages more than one-fifth of U.S. hospital beds, automates staffing and scheduling decisions, potentially replacing clinical judgment and exacerbating the national nursing shortage.

A global week of action is scheduled to begin on September 28. This international effort includes coordination with National Health Service (NHS) workers in the United Kingdom, who plan to protest the company’s role in healthcare on October 1. The campaign is supported by organizations such as Amnesty International and the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
