National Nurses United protests Palantir's AI use in hospitals
National Nurses United (NNU) organized coordinated protests across eight U.S. cities, including Palo Alto, Chicago, and Los Angeles, to demand that hospitals and officials sever ties with Palantir.
The union argues that Palantir’s artificial intelligence software is being used in ways that harm both healthcare workers and vulnerable populations. Specifically, NNU claims that automated staffing platforms managed by Palantir are exacerbating the healthcare industry's understaffing crisis. Furthermore, the union asserts that Palantir manages data systems tied to more than one-fifth of all hospital beds in the United States.
Protesters also highlighted the company’s involvement in immigration enforcement. They cited the use of Palantir’s ‘Elite’ application by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to locate migrants. Demonstrators presented visual displays, such as pairs of baby shoes, to represent the thousands of children and infants allegedly detained by federal agents using technologies supported by the company.
