National Open University of Nigeria Bursar shot dead in Zamfara

Nasiru Gusau Marafa, the Bursar of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has been shot dead in Zamfara State. The university confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

According to the university's Registrar and Secretary to Council, Oladipo Adetayo Ajayi, Marafa was reportedly shot while returning from Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State. The institution has not yet disclosed the specific location of the attack, the circumstances surrounding the shooting, or the identity of the perpetrators.

Marafa was appointed to the role of Bursar in September 2022 for a five-year term. The university described him as a dedicated and committed administrator who had served the institution in various capacities throughout his career.
