National Open University of Nigeria expands student health insurance

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has approved four additional Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) to expand its student health insurance scheme. The new providers—Healthspring, Noor, Novo, and Precious—will participate in the 2026 second phase of the Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP).

This expansion brings the total number of appointed HMOs to eight, covering students across all six geo-political zones in Nigeria. Under the scheme, students will be enrolled through their respective study centres and issued health insurance cards. These cards will grant access to medical services at designated healthcare facilities within their states of residence.

To facilitate enrollment, the university’s Directorate of Management Information System is compiling student data, including names, registration numbers, and contact details, to be forwarded to the HMOs. The initiative aims to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to support student wellbeing during their academic pursuits.
