National Opera and Ballet stages Cavalleria rusticana

The National Opera and Ballet is staging Pietro Mascagni’s opera ‘Cavalleria rusticana’, a prominent work of Italian verismo. The production is conducted by Ivan Eminovic and directed by Gian Domenico Vacari from Italy.

The opera features a cast including Vesna Ginovska Ilkova as Santuzza, Zoran Sotirov as Turiddu, Marjan Jovanoski as Alfio, Katerina Stojanovska as Lola, and Sonja Pendovska Madevska as Mother Lucia, accompanied by the institution's orchestra and choir. Originally premiered in 1890, the work is noted for its dramatic intensity and musical expressionism, exploring themes of love, jealousy, betrayal, and honor.
