National Para Games begin in Jeju with record-breaking performances

The 46th National Para Games have commenced in Jeju, South Korea, featuring various athletic competitions and ceremonial events. In preliminary weightlifting events, Cheon Min-gi set three new Korean records in the men's 49kg category, winning gold in powerlifting, weightlifting, and the total sum to secure his fourth consecutive triple crown.

In bowling, Jo Young-hwa achieved her second consecutive victory in the women's individual TPB2 event.

To mark the start of the games, a ceremonial torch was lit at Tamra Cultural Plaza. A relay involving 175 participants, including Jeju haenyeo (female divers) and individuals using wearable robots, traveled through 31 sections across Jeju City and Seogwipo City. The games are scheduled to run through September 16, with the official opening ceremony held at the Jeju World Cup Stadium.
