National Peace Council urges dialogue to protect Ghana's religious diversity

The National Peace Council has called on citizens to protect Ghana’s religious diversity and prevent faith-based differences from escalating into conflict. Speaking at an engagement between religious leaders and the Inspector-General of Police in Accra on August 14, Executive Secretary George Amoh emphasized that dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence are essential to maintaining national stability.

Mr. Amoh noted that while recent incidents have heightened religious tensions, Ghana’s diversity should be viewed as a strength rather than a vulnerability to be exploited. He commended the Ghana Police Service for its swift interventions in recent tensions, noting that state institutions must remain capable of containing such situations before they escalate.

Warning that recent developments may not be the final test of the nation's peace, Amoh stated that disagreements are inevitable in any society. He urged citizens to avoid retaliatory violence, asserting that “violence cannot be used to respond to violent conduct,” and instead encouraged the use of lawful processes and dialogue to resolve grievances.
