National Pension Authority approves new profit rates and scheme expansions

The National Pension Authority (NPA) has approved a profit rate for the Universal Pension Scheme ranging from 11.68% to 11.72% for the 2025–26 fiscal year. The decision was made during the authority's 4th board meeting, chaired by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Key policy changes include extending the age limit for nominees or spouses to receive pension benefits following a pensioner's death from 75 to 80 years. The board also prioritized the introduction of Shariah-compliant, Islamic versions of the ‘Probash’, ‘Progoti’, ‘Shurokkha’, and ‘Shomota’ schemes. The Asian Development Bank and local consultants are currently assisting with the structure and regulatory framework for these Islamic options.

Additionally, the board discussed expanding the ‘Progoti’ scheme to include employees of state-owned companies that currently lack pension coverage. Proposals are also being reviewed to allow fund withdrawals under specific circumstances involving physical or financial disability, provided the subscriber has made installments for at least five years.
