National Pension Service appoints Kyuhong Lee as CIO
South Korea’s National Pension Service (NPS) has appointed Kyuhong Lee as its new Chief Investment Officer (CIO). Lee will oversee a portfolio valued at approximately 1,866 trillion won (about $1.4 trillion), making the NPS one of the largest public pension funds globally.
Lee brings extensive experience in both traditional and alternative asset management. He previously served as CIO of the Teachers’ Pension from 2019 to 2023, where he led the fund through several years of strong investment returns. His professional background also includes leadership roles at NH-Amundi Asset Management, Ascendas Asset Management Korea, and Eastspring Investments Korea.
The appointment follows a period of vacancy after the previous CIO, Seo Won-ju, completed his tenure. Lee’s term is set for two years, effective September 15, with the possibility of annual renewals based on performance.
