National Police report over 20 officer deaths in 2026

Rigoberto Oseguera Mass, director of the National Police, reported that more than 20 officers have died in the line of duty during 2026. Mass expressed grief over the losses, noting the emotional impact on the families of the deceased and the institution itself.

Law enforcement operations are currently concentrated on 12 percent of the national territory where crime rates are highest. A recent incident in the Rivera Hernández colony of San Pedro Sula resulted in the death of 35-year-old Police Inspector Adán Emanuel Rodríguez Miranda during an operation against suspected members of the 18th Street Gang. The encounter involved an exchange of gunfire, and authorities have requested several individuals for questioning.
