National Prescription Drug Take Back Day events scheduled

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, with collection events running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organized by the National Drug Enforcement Administration, this biannual initiative aims to prevent drug misuse, reduce environmental contamination from flushing medications, and raise awareness regarding the risks of keeping unneeded drugs in the home.

In southwestern Pennsylvania, various hospitals, police departments, fire departments, municipalities, and pharmacies will host collection sites. Penn Highlands Mon Valley is participating in partnership with the Carroll Township Police Department. Residents can dispose of expired or unused prescription and over-the-counter medications, including ointments, at the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center on the Penn Highlands Mon Valley campus.
