Poland hosts 15th National Reading event featuring Dziady
President Karol Nawrocki and First Lady Marta Nawrocka have invited citizens to participate in the 15th edition of Narodowe Czytanie (National Reading), scheduled to culminate on September 5, 2026. This year, the selected literary work is Adam Mickiewicz’s drama “Dziady,” described by the President as a “foundation of Polish culture” and a “national mystery.”
Various regional institutions across Poland are organizing events to celebrate the reading. Activities include public readings at the Bytów Castle, community gatherings around bonfires in Sokółka, and theatrical performances in Niemstowo. Other locations, such as the Ossolineum, are hosting exhibitions of early editions of the play and readings by professional actors.
The annual initiative, which began in 2012, aims to promote Polish literary classics. This year’s edition also introduces the availability of the text in audiobook format via specialized YouTube channels.
