Argentina advances road infrastructure through private concessions
Argentina is undergoing significant shifts in its national road infrastructure management. The Ministry of Economy is advancing a plan to transfer the operation, maintenance, and exploitation of strategic corridors to private companies. This includes the transfer of 1,871 kilometers of national routes to five private firms, marking a transition away from the state-owned Corredores Viales S.A. In the Santa Fe region, the paving of Route 31 between Tartagal and Intiyaco has reached 85% completion after being reactivated. Additionally, the concession of Route 34 to José Cartellone Construcciones Civiles S.A. will introduce new toll stations in the Castellanos department by 2027.
In Jujuy, works on National Route 34 are set to resume on September 1 following government negotiations and the release of federal funds, despite an outstanding debt of approximately 7 billion pesos. Meanwhile, the province of Río Negro has requested emergency road status and $60 million in debt authorization to manage Routes 22 and 151. In Buenos Aires, officials have formally requested the transfer of the Presidente Perón Highway and Route 33 to provincial administration. Finally, Vialidad Nacional has announced a 25-day total traffic closure on Route 14 in Misiones to perform emergency drainage repairs necessitated by the El Niño phenomenon.
