National SARAS Mela in Vijayawada draws crowds and high-profile visitors

The National SARAS Mela, held at Punnami Ghat in Vijayawada, has seen significant visitor turnout and business activity, generating approximately 3.5 crore in revenue so far. The exhibition, organized by central and state governments, provides a platform for women’s self-help groups (SHGs) from across India to showcase and sell traditional crafts and locally made goods.

Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandrasekhar inspected the site to address facility needs, including improving sanitation and resolving Wi-Fi connectivity issues for digital payments. He emphasized the government's commitment to supporting SHGs to boost livelihoods.

Adding to the event's profile, Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong and a high-level delegation visited the mela. The Ambassador praised the creativity and entrepreneurial skills of the rural women, noting the economic empowerment facilitated by the SHG movement.
