National Security Service official detained for domestic violence

Alexey Pashovski, a high-ranking official within Bulgaria's National Security Service (NSS) responsible for the security of the Boyana Residence, was detained following an incident of domestic violence. Reports indicate the incident occurred during a domestic dispute between Pashovski and his wife, who is currently in the process of divorcing him.

Conflicting accounts exist regarding the severity of the assault. One report claims the victim is in critical condition following a brutal beating, while police records from the 6th District Police Station state the 44-year-old wife reported death threats rather than physical battery. According to the police, the 49-year-old man was detained after the wife reported he threatened to kill her.

The NSS confirmed that an employee was detained and the matter was reported to the Military Prosecutor's Office. However, following a report from the prosecutor, no charges were filed due to a lack of evidence of a crime, and the man was released. The incident has drawn criticism regarding the personnel management and conduct within the NSS leadership under General Emil Tonev.
