National Sports Authority officials accused of $623,000 visa scam

A petition has been filed with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service alleging that officials at the National Sports Authority (NSA) misappropriated nearly $623,000. The complainants allege the funds were collected from members of the public under the guise of facilitating visas for the FIFA World Cup.

While the petition does not publicly name specific individuals, media reports have alleged that NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah received substantial commissions related to the arrangement. Ankrah has denied the allegations.

The NSA confirmed that the CID is investigating the matter and stated that its legal team is cooperating fully with the authorities. The Authority characterized the reports as “false allegations” and “reckless news,” noting that its relationship with TRIBE FEST, a FIFA-licensed partner, is part of its legitimate fan-experience programming.
