Argentina hockey teams dominate in South American Games debuts
Argentina’s national hockey teams achieved dominant victories in their debuts at the 2026 South American Games in Santa Fe. The women’s team, Las Leonas, defeated Paraguay 14-0. The squad, which includes seven recent world champions, saw Lara Casas score a hat-trick, while several other players recorded doubles.
The men’s team, Los Leones, secured a massive 22-0 win against Peru. Franco Agostini led the scoring with five goals, followed by Mateo Torrigiani with four, and Santiago Tarazona with three. Both teams are competing for direct qualification to the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima.
Other sporting highlights from the games include the Argentine women’s softball team winning their opening match against Bolivia 8-0 in Paraná, and the women’s gymnastics team, ‘Las Fénix’, winning gold in Rosario, breaking a 32-year dominance by Brazil. Additionally, Milagros Schneider is set to represent Argentina in handball, and Julieta Ruelli made a successful debut in women’s volleyball.
