National Stock Exchange of India launches Rs 22,569 crore IPO
The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has launched its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), which opens for subscription from September 17 to September 21. The issue is structured entirely as an offer for sale (OFS) of up to 12.64 crore equity shares by existing shareholders, meaning the exchange will not receive fresh capital from the offering. The total issue size is approximately Rs 22,569 crore, with a fixed price band of Rs 1,700 to Rs 1,785 per share.
NSE CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan noted that investor demand has been “unexpectedly large.” While the anchor book size was revised downward to approximately Rs 6,250 crore from an initial target of Rs 9,000 crore, interest remains substantial. Major institutional participants in the anchor book include Goldman Sachs Asset Management, HSBC, Fidelity International, and Eastspring Investments, as well as sovereign wealth funds like GIC Singapore and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
Selling shareholders, including State Bank of India and CPP Investments, are expected to realize significant profits from the sale. The exchange has maintained strong financial performance, with EBITDA margins reported between 77% and 79% in recent years. The IPO is one of the largest in the country's history, following the scale of the Hyundai Motor India offering earlier in 2024.
