National Stock Exchange of India teams up with Sequel Logistics to launch electronic gold receipts

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) announced a partnership with Sequel Logistics to create and vault Electronic Gold Receipts (EGRs), a new exchange‑traded instrument backed by physical gold. Under the agreement, Sequel will use its network of 23 vaults across India to securely store the gold that underpins each receipt, enabling investors to trade gold electronically while maintaining a physical backing.

NSE’s Chief Business Development Officer Sriram Krishnan said the collaboration provides a “trusted, secure and well‑distributed vaulting network” essential for the integrity of the EGR ecosystem. Sequel’s Managing Director Rajkumar S added that the product represents a “defining role in the financialisation of gold in India,” aiming to boost investor confidence and scale the market.

The partnership is intended to strengthen transparency and standardisation in Indian gold trading, offering a regulated, exchange‑listed alternative to traditional gold purchases.
