National Tax Service awards cash receipt content contest winners

The South Korean National Tax Service held an awards ceremony on the 28th to announce the winners of its ‘Cash Receipt Short-form Content Contest’. The competition aimed to promote a culture of issuing cash receipts through public participation. Out of 133 entries submitted between May 27 and June 26, 15 works were selected for prizes, with a total prize pool of 10 million won.

Jeong Ji-hyeon won the grand prize for the work ‘Shall I issue a cash receipt?’, which used a musical drama format to depict a cafe part-timer’s interaction with a customer. Other notable winners included Lee Su-ji, who received the gold prize, and several teams that utilized diverse methods such as sign language to ensure accessibility for the hearing impaired.

Since the introduction of the cash receipt system in 2005, the number of issued receipts has increased approximately 11-fold, from 450 million to 4.98 billion, while the total amount has grown 10-fold from 18.6 trillion won to 193.8 trillion won. Despite this growth, the National Tax Service noted that instances of non-issuance or refusal to issue receipts still occur in certain industries, prompting the need for continued promotional efforts.
