National Teen Driver Safety Week emphasizes road awareness

During National Teen Driver Safety Week, safety officials and educators are highlighting the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of responsible habits among young motorists.

In Delaware, the Office of Highway Safety (OHS) reported that 26 teenagers aged 15–19 were killed in crashes on state roadways between 2021 and 2025. To address these risks, the OHS released a new installment of its ‘Local Lowdown’ video series featuring a Dover Police Department officer to provide law enforcement perspectives on road safety.

In Alabama, driving instructors are also using the week to warn that even two to three seconds of distracted driving can have life-altering consequences. Safety advocates are encouraging parents and caregivers to engage in regular conversations with teens regarding the dangers of speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving.
