National Testing Agency addresses NEET paper leak controversy

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is facing scrutiny following a controversy involving the leak of the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) question papers. The incident, which surfaced shortly before scheduled assessment dates, has raised significant concerns regarding the integrity of India’s examination processes and the security measures employed by regulatory bodies.

In response to the scandal, the Ministry of Education announced a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry and a subsequent re-examination. Following a Bombay High Court interim order, the NTA has declared the Re-NEET UG 2026 result for a student from Pune. The student’s results had previously been withheld after the CBI alleged the candidate was a ‘direct beneficiary’ of the leaked paper. The court noted it would not interfere with ongoing CBI proceedings but granted relief to allow the student to participate in the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for medical and dental courses.

The controversy has prompted discussions regarding systemic reforms and the need for more stringent measures to protect student rights and restore trust in national-level entrance examinations.
