National Theatre of Greece to perform Nikos Chouliaras tribute in Ioannina
The National Theatre of Greece, in collaboration with the Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation, will present the performance ‘Tora pia fusaei monacha mes stis lexeis’ (Now it blows alone among the words) on September 11 and 12, 2026. The event will take place in the outdoor space of the Museum of Silversmithing in Ioannina as part of the museum's 10th-anniversary celebrations.
Directed and dramatized by Efi Theodorou, the production is a dramaturgical composition inspired by the works of the prominent Ioannina-born artist, writer, poet, and songwriter Nikos Chouliaras (1940–2015). The performance draws from his short stories, such as ‘To bakakok’ and ‘Mia istoria tou makry chimona’, as well as his poetry. The production aims to evoke the atmosphere of Chouliaras's birthplace through words, sketches, and music.
The performance features Giorgos Kritharas and the voice of Eleni Vergéti. The musical landscape includes Chouliaras's own songs, original compositions by Nikos Platanos based on Chouliaras's poetry, works by Vasilis Gofas, and traditional Epirus motifs, performed live by Kostas Kostagiorgos on violin and Vasilis Gofas on guitar. Admission is free, though reservations are required.
