National Traffic Information Centre relocates to new Ostrava facility

The National Traffic Information Centre (NDIC) has relocated to a larger and more modern facility in the Orchard administrative complex in Ostrava. The move follows significant operational challenges faced by the Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) during extreme flooding in September 2024, which impacted the previous site at the Highway Administration and Maintenance Centre (SSÚD) in Přívoz.

ŘSD Director General Radek Mátl stated that the relocation was necessary to move the center away from flood-prone areas to ensure continuous functionality during natural disasters. The new facility features modernized electronic equipment and network connectivity to prevent the technical failures experienced at the old location, which had been in use for nearly 21 years.

The NDIC operates continuously to collect and process real-time data on traffic conditions, including accidents, closures, congestion, and weather across all road categories in the Czech Republic. It gathers information from police, emergency services, firefighters, and meteorological systems, distributing updates to drivers via navigation services, media, and information portals.
