National Transparency Authority uncovers widespread irregularities in Greece

A 104-page report from the National Transparency Authority has uncovered widespread irregularities and illegal activities involving both state and private entities in Greece. The findings include illegal direct contract awards by ministries and local authorities, fraudulent data provided by NGOs regarding medical personnel, and a 12-year failure by regional transport departments to conduct mandatory road safety inspections on heavy vehicles.

The report also highlights dangerous conditions in kindergartens and playgrounds, the illegal operation of campsites and cinemas, and procedural failures in handling minor abuse cases. Additionally, it notes instances of workplace bullying within public services.

These investigations have already identified numerous individuals facing disciplinary action, including 18 mayors, 6 General Directorate heads, 45 Department heads, 51 local government officials, and 91 state employees. In the past year, the Authority handled 8,152 complaints, with a significant portion involving local government organizations, health and welfare issues, and labor relations.
