National Universities Commission verifies new academic programmes in Nigeria

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has advanced academic expansion in Nigeria through resource verification processes at two institutions.

Sokoto State University (SSU) has received approval for the resource verification of 24 new academic programmes. These proposed undergraduate offerings span several faculties, including Health Sciences (MBBS, Nursing, Pharmacy), Agriculture, Computing (Cyber Security, Software Engineering), Engineering, and Management and Social Sciences. The verification process involves the NUC assessing the university's academic staff, facilities, and equipment to ensure they meet required standards.

Separately, Achievers University underwent a resource verification exercise conducted by an 18-member NUC team to assess its readiness to offer seven new postgraduate programmes. These include advanced degrees in Law, Geology, Microbiology, Public Health, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Vice-Chancellor Professor Omolola O. Irinoye noted that the NUC's quality-assurance framework is essential for maintaining the credibility of Nigerian higher education.
