National Water and Sewerage Corporation expands production in Uganda

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is implementing infrastructure projects to increase water production and stabilize supply across several regions in Uganda.

In the Lira area, NWSC aims to reach a target of 12.5 million litres per day to meet rising demand caused by Lira City’s elevation to city status and rapid population growth. Previous efforts increased production from 6.5 million to 10 million litres per day through upgrades to pumps, generators, pipework, and transformers at the Kachung Water Treatment Plant and Agwatta Booster Station.

In Soroti, major works at the Awoja Water Treatment Plant are nearing completion, with the goal of increasing daily production from 7 million to 10 million litres. The project includes the installation of new clarifiers, rapid filters, and flocculators, as well as the laying of new raw water pipelines and transmission mains. These improvements are intended to serve Soroti City and surrounding districts, including Kalaki, Kaberamaido, and Amuria.
