National Water Company launches leak detection campaign in Saudi Arabia
The National Water Company in Saudi Arabia has launched a national awareness campaign titled ‘It is easy to detect our home leaks ourselves’. The initiative aims to help consumers identify both visible and hidden water leaks through simple steps, promoting water conservation as a daily practice.
Field studies conducted by the company revealed that 93% of high water consumption is caused by internal leaks, specifically in areas such as underground tank floats, tank necks, and toilet flush mechanisms. Another major factor identified is the failure to update property data and unit divisions.
According to the company, repairing leaks and installing approved water-saving tools can reduce consumption by up to 46% and lower water bills by as much as 60%. Furthermore, sanitary tools bearing water conservation labels alone can save approximately 30% of average consumption.
The company emphasized that, per the Saudi Water Authority guidelines, responsibility for internal leaks lies with the consumer, with the water meter serving as the boundary for the service provider's responsibility. Consumers are encouraged to perform periodic checks by closing all water outlets and monitoring the meter and tanks.
