National Waterway-4 funding in Andhra Pradesh rises to ₹18.28 crore

Development of National Waterway-4 (NW-4) in Andhra Pradesh is accelerating, with government funding for the 2025–26 financial year rising to ₹18.28 crore. This represents a significant increase from ₹1.22 crore in 2024–25 and ₹0.67 crore in 2023–24.

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) is advancing infrastructure to improve multimodal connectivity and tourism along the Krishna River. Key developments include a Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) terminal at Muktyala and the awarding of construction for another terminal at Harishchandrapuram. Additionally, four floating jetties were handed over to the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) to support river-based tourism.

During the 2025–26 fiscal year, NW-4 recorded 5.71 million tonnes of cargo movement and 2.34 million passenger movements. Despite this growth, challenges remain, including the need for land transfers at Ibrahimpatnam, reliance on water releases from the Pulichintala Dam for navigation depths, and restrictions caused by low-level bridges.
