National Weather Service warns of dangerous waves in Bay Area

The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for the Bay Area coast, warning of hazardous beach conditions due to long-period ocean swells. These swells increase the risk of strong rip currents and sneaker waves, which can sweep people from beaches, jetties, and rocks without warning.

The first period of hazardous conditions is expected to last through Tuesday evening. A second period is forecast from Thursday through Sunday, with waves potentially reaching 13 to 17 feet. Forecasters recommend that beachgoers stay out of the water and avoid piers, rocks, and jetties.
