National Wellness Month emphasizes preventive health and indoor environments

National Wellness Month, observed in August, emphasizes the importance of both personal health habits and the quality of indoor environments.

Personal wellness focuses on preventive care and consistent lifestyle choices. Key recommendations include prioritizing annual medical checkups to detect silent conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, and ensuring adequate sleep to reduce risks of obesity and heart disease.

Beyond individual habits, experts from Zimmetry Environmental highlight that indoor environmental quality (IEQ) is a critical factor in well-being. Because individuals spend up to 90% of their time indoors, factors such as air and water quality, lighting, thermal comfort, humidity, and acoustics significantly impact health, productivity, and comfort. Poor indoor conditions can lead to fatigue, headaches, and respiratory irritation, whereas well-maintained environments support better energy levels and concentration.
