National Youth Authority aims to train 100,000 youth by 2026
The National Youth Authority (NYA) has exceeded its initial target for the National Apprenticeship Programme, training 14,000 Ghanaian youth in 2025 against an original goal of 10,000.
Osman Ayariga, CEO of the NYA, announced the results at the National Youth Forum. He stated that the programme aims to improve employability and entrepreneurship by combining 30% classroom instruction with 70% practical workplace training. The initiative is designed to provide inclusive skills training for young people, particularly those outside the formal education system.
The NYA plans to scale the programme significantly, targeting the training of 100,000 youth by the end of 2026. Efforts are also underway to professionalize the informal apprenticeship sector by training and certifying mastercraft persons to serve as instructors, ensuring standardized quality, mentorship, and credible pathways to sustainable livelihoods.
