National Youth Authority seeks parliamentary support for Ghana youth development

The National Youth Authority (NYA) has called for increased cooperation with the Parliament of Ghana to accelerate youth development initiatives. During a briefing with the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee, NYA Chief Executive Officer Osman Ayariga emphasized the need for strategic partnerships and parliamentary oversight to improve outcomes for young people.

Committee members raised concerns regarding funding shortages. Michael Kwasi Aidoo, Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, noted that delays in releasing the District Assemblies Common Fund have disrupted operations. These financial constraints have significantly hindered the NYA’s ability to meet its training targets; while the goal is to train 100,000 young people, fewer than 20,000 have been trained to date.

Committee chairman Ernest Henry Norgbey acknowledged the challenges faced by the Authority due to limited resources and pledged the Committee’s support. Additionally, lawmakers encouraged the NYA to deepen engagement with traditional and community leaders to foster patriotism and responsible citizenship among the youth.
