Nationalist Congress Party faces leadership and legal disputes
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is facing internal legal and organizational challenges regarding its leadership and identity. Supriya Sule, working president of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) faction, stated that the fight in the Supreme Court is a “battle of morality.” She argued that while another faction may have gained recognition from the Election Commission, the party’s constitution and ownership rightfully belong to Sharad Pawar, the founder.
Simultaneously, NCP national secretary Sachchidanand Singh has issued legal notices to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, challenging her election as national president. Singh alleges irregularities in the February 2026 election process and is demanding fresh elections in accordance with the party constitution. He has also served notices to senior leaders Praful Patel and Brijmohan Srivastava. Senior party members, including Chhagan Bhujbal, have questioned the motives behind the notices, noting that Sunetra Pawar maintains support from party office-bearers, MPs, and MLAs.
