Native plants in Brazil offer ecological benefits
Cultivating native plants offers various benefits and helps mitigate the risks associated with invasive exotic species. In Brazil, several native species, such as Pau-Brasil, Pinheiro-do-Paraná, Palmito-Juçara, and Xaxim, face threats of extinction due to deforestation, urban expansion, monocultures, predatory commercial exploitation, climate change, fires, and invasive species.
While exotic plants are widely available in garden centers due to their ease of mass cultivation, aesthetic standardization, and adaptability to indoor environments, expanding the use of native plants is considered important for ecological health. Because Brazil contains six distinct climate types, the selection of native plants should be based on the specific region to ensure successful growth.
