Natàlia Enguix launches Valencia exile memory project in Mexico
Natàlia Enguix, first vice‑president of the Diputació de València and deputy for Memòria Democràtica, is spearheading a new initiative called “El exilio republicà valencià en CDMX”. Developed with photo‑journalist Eva Máñez, the project will research, document and publicise the trace of Valencian men and women who fled to Mexico after the Spanish Civil War and the Franco dictatorship. It will gather testimonies from descendants, historic photographs and archival material, and map the sites in Mexico City linked to their lives. The findings will be presented in a publication and an exhibition back in Valencia.
The effort coincides with Enguix’s participation (1‑3 September) in the international conference “When the world expels: the republican exile, democratic memory and forced mobilities”, organised by the Universidad Iberoamericana and El Colegio de México. She will open the event, join a panel on education, exile and memory, and attend the closing session that brings together researchers and officials from Spain and Mexico. Related exhibitions such as “Les Roses de Paterna” and “Les Guardians de la Memòria”, also linked to Eva Máñez, will showcase the role of women and families in preserving exile memory.
