NATO addresses security concerns in Bulgaria and Kosovo

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has reaffirmed the alliance’s support for Bulgaria following concerns regarding potential aggressive actions by Iran. During a phone call with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev, Rutte emphasized that NATO forces and defense capabilities in the region are prepared to neutralize threats to member states. This follows reports that Iranian forces may have assessed the possibility of striking US military assets in Bulgaria, leading to increased security at Bezmer Air Base.

Separately, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced plans to speak with Rutte regarding the KFOR mission in Kosovo. Vucic is seeking to address demands concerning the KFOR presence on the main bridge over the Ibar River between South and North Mitrovica. NATO officials stated that while KFOR is undergoing a gradual, condition-based transition to optimize its posture, the alliance aims to maintain a visible presence to ensure a secure environment for all local communities.
