NATO affirms commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina security
NATO intends to maintain its presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina to ensure regional stability and prevent a security vacuum, according to Ambassador Vladimir Vučinić, head of NATO’s Political and Security Engagement Cell (PESC) in the country.
In an interview with the Italian portal Report Difesa, Vučinić stated that while the current security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is assessed as stable, the Alliance remains committed to the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized that NATO’s role has evolved over three decades from large-scale peacekeeping operations, such as IFOR and SFOR, toward partnership, capacity building, political dialogue, and resilience.
NATO continues to support the EUFOR Althea operation under the Berlin Plus arrangement. Vučinić also noted Bosnia and Herzegovina’s long-standing involvement in the Partnership for Peace since 2006 and its participation in the Planning and Review Process (PARP) since 2007, which serves as a mechanism for measuring defense reform progress.
