NATO Commander praises Bosnia and Herzegovina Armed Forces

Brigadier General James C. Fowler, Commander of NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (OSBiH) during the ‘CURRENT RESPONSE 26’ exercise. Held from October 19 to 23 at the Manjača training ground, the exercise aims to verify the readiness of declared units to operate according to NATO standards.

General Fowler noted that successful certification would confirm the OSBiH's ability to engage in global NATO peacekeeping missions and provide domestic support during natural disasters, such as forest fires. However, he issued a warning regarding limited funding, stating that current resources for modernization, training, and improving the living standards of personnel are insufficient.

To address these challenges, Fowler announced plans to work with the Minister of Defense, the Chief of the Joint Staff, and fiscal councils at both entity and state levels to secure an adequate budget for strengthening military readiness.

The ‘CURRENT RESPONSE 26’ exercise involves 881 OSBiH personnel, with an additional 330 members from the OSBiH and NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command Naples participating in the directorate and evaluation structure.
