NATO Commander urges Europe to name Russia for hybrid attacks
NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Alexus Grynkewich has called on European governments to publicly attribute responsibility to Moscow for increasing hybrid attacks and destabilizing activities. Speaking before a committee of the European Parliament, Grynkewich argued that naming perpetrators increases the cost for state sponsors and serves as a deterrent by demonstrating that their networks are being monitored.
Recent incidents cited include a drone carrying explosives at a German airport and a Russian military vessel firing flares toward a Danish helicopter. Grynkewich emphasized that these actions are attempts to intimidate allies and undermine unified support for Ukraine. He recommended that nations respond to such threats by strengthening their military and political support for Kyiv.
The commander noted that NATO initiatives, such as the ‘Eastern Shield’ mission involving Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, have already shown results. He stated that Russian actors have become more cautious regarding drone incursions into Poland and the Baltic states since the mission's launch on September 11.
