NATO deemed persistent threat by Russia as alliance plans higher defence spending

Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Vladislav Maslennikov warned that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization remains a “persistent threat” to Russian security. He said NATO members are preparing to raise defence spending to 5 % of GDP by 2035, expand their defence‑industrial capacity and continue military support for Ukraine, noting that “the alliance will continue to promote a confrontational agenda against Russia.”

Analyst John Ross argued that NATO and the United States are directly involved in long‑range missile and drone strikes inside Russia, despite official claims that the attacks are Ukrainian. He highlighted that Germany and the United Kingdom are preparing for a possible wider European conflict, citing Germany’s plan for mandatory recruitment and a readiness timetable that aims for “by 2029, we need to be ready,” as stated by German defence chief Carsten Breuer.
