NATO Deputy Secretary General visits Dublin for security talks

NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska visited Dublin for a two-day engagement focused on security issues and defense strategies. Her itinerary included a public discussion at the Institute of International and European Affairs and participation in an informal meeting of European Union defense ministers.

While Ireland maintains a longstanding policy of military neutrality, it participates in NATO’s Partnership for Peace program. The visit aimed to discuss the current European security environment and enhance collaboration in defense matters.

The visit prompted organized protests from groups opposing NATO’s presence in Ireland, with demonstrators arguing that increased involvement undermines national sovereignty. Tensions escalated into scuffles between protesters and Gardai as police attempted to manage the crowds outside meeting venues. No severe injuries were reported during the clashes.
