NATO develops new defense concept for Baltic protection

NATO is developing a new strategic approach to defend the Baltic states against potential Russian aggression, known as the ‘NATO Land Warfighting Concept’. This strategy shifts from merely intercepting incoming threats to proactively neutralizing the sources of attack.

The plan consists of three primary pillars. First, NATO aims to immediately neutralize Russian missile and drone launch systems using fighters, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles. A key target for these operations would be the heavily militarized Kaliningrad enclave, which houses advanced Iskander missile complexes and air defense systems.

Second, the alliance intends to establish ‘autonomous zones’ along the borders with Russia and Belarus. These zones would function as a defensive barrier utilizing drones, unmanned ground vehicles, and automated sensors to detect and destroy enemy forces, thereby minimizing the risk to NATO personnel in high-danger front-line areas.

Third, the concept includes provisions for disrupting Russian supply chains and potentially conducting strikes deeper into Russian territory to weaken the aggressor's capability to sustain an offensive.
